Spooky New England (public lecture Wed 23 Jun)
What is it like to deal with real-life "ghost-busters"? What fueled the fury of the Salem Witch Trials? Are there really miracles going on in Audrey Santos's house? NESS Executive Director Perry DeAngelis will take on these questions and more in this lively and compelling survey of the paranormal in New England. He will speak for Mass. NESS Wednesday, June 23, at the Brookline Public Library, 361 Washington St., in Hunneman Hall, from 7-8:30 p.m. Admission is free.
Our summer schedule will continue at the Brookline Public Library.
On Tuesday, July 20, noted Babson economics professor and former Mass. NESS chairman Larry Moss will speak on "The Biggest Business Scams of All Time" and show you how to be a skeptical businessperson.
Both summer events are free.
On Tuesday, August 17, mentalist and magician Rory Raven will hold a special summer seance. Mr. Raven, well-schooled in the magic tricks of 100 years ago,
will deliver a speech on spiritualism and end with his seance.
They will be held at Hunneman Hall in the Brookline Public Library's main branch at 361 Washington St., from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
The speakers series returns to MIT in the fall.
Topic for next dinner meeting -- Urban Legends
Did you hear the one about the Choking Doberman? How about the Vanishing Hitchhiker? I swear it's true. It happened to a friend of a friend! The next informal dinner meeting [usually first Wednesday of the month] of Mass. NESS will take place at the Hong Kong Cafe in Boston. The topic will be Urban Legends. Come ready to discuss your favorite. Please try to bring one which has a local twist or other scandalous detail that shows evidence that the story has
"improved" with repeated tellings. As always, we will vote on the winner, who receives free dinner and a choice of toy from the Chairchick's toy bag. The Hong Kong Cafe is at 575 Commonwealth Ave., inside the Howard Johnson's. Parking is free, but scarce. Nearest T-
stop is Kenmore on the Green Line. Please RSVP to Chairchick Gibson at firstname.lastname@example.org and/or Vice Chairman Ed Wallner at email@example.com.
